Twist. Illuminate. Transform. ARC.
ARC - Interactive Lighting
Project
Create a light that allows for interaction in a space and with the user.
Process
Lighting is often overlooked in everyday life. This project set out to reintroduce a sense of interaction between people and environments.
Solution
Create a lamp that encourages touch and interaction, bringing a more sensory, tactile presence into the space.
Table lamps specifically
Most table/mood lamps lack experience between user and space. Standard buttons or switches are used across most of the market.
Through motion
Using ARC allows you to regulate the brightness with a simple twist of the shade. Creating an experience every time you interact.
What’s on the market?
How ARC changes that.
Inspiration stemmed from Brutalist architecture and urban life.
Initial Ideation
Form exploration started with simple 2D sketches, before moving into 3D and the mechanism of ARC.
Initial Prototyping
Rigorous testing was done, determining the ideal mechanism needed, following shade testing.
3D Refinement
3D modeling was used to help visualize different metal stands and shades.
Prototyping
Laser cut aluminium was bent, following the wiring of the dimmer switch, and finishing of the lamp shades.
ARC utilizes fabric wrapped cords for unlimited customization.
