Pattern pieces used to create the REV.

Process of final prototype.

I wanted to design for the kid who wants to do more for our planet, the kid who demands more for his future, and for the kid who wants to “Skate with a Purpose.

Takeback Program

Skate your shoes. Send them back to us, and we will grind them up and compost them. Leaving zero trace.

Initial prototype checking pattern piece accuracy.

Solution

To design an entirely compostable shoe, while utilizing only natural materials to ensure environmental sustainability. To enhance durability, I reinforced high-impact areas with additional layers, ensuring longevity without compromising eco-friendliness.

VANS REV - Biodegradable Skate Shoe

Project

Craft a shoe concept for the Vans brand that not only encapsulates their brand language but also pioneers a potential future direction in footwear design for them as a brand.

Foam mold created using a CNC, Mycelium product used to create a fully biodegradable packaging/shipping box.

Process

Pro skaters cycle through a pair of shoes every week, while beginners often see theirs worn out within 1-2 months. Annually, 300 million pairs of shoes are discarded in the U.S. alone. This shows that skate shoes are at the top of the list for throw away shoes.
